Founder & Principal Scientist

Ramya has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi and a Bachelor's in Materials Science from Columbia University and now focuses on bio-based materials & sustainable engineering solutions for full-scale manufacturing deployment.  Over 8 years at Columbia University, Technical University of Delft in Netherlands, and at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, she worked on 15+ translational, academia-industry research projects with applications ranging from packaging to water quality and medical devices. Ramya is also supporting as a mentor with Third Derivative (D3) and Alchemist Accelerator since 2024.

Kavya holds a Master’s in Biotechnology from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s in Microbiology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Her interest in material science has led her to work on diverse projects ranging from biopolymers such as polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) to bioengineered skin systems for studying aging. She has also worked at L’Oréal, contributing to product development and innovation in the anti-aging space, with a focus on aligning scientific rigor with consumer and market needs. Kavya has also been part of global accelerator programs, including the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Accelerator and the Hult Prize, reflecting her entrepreneurial approach to building science-led solutions. At Ramya.Materials, she focuses on translating scientific insight into scalable applications across packaging, health, and consumer systems.

Gayatri holds a B. Arch. from School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi and a master’s in Bio-Integrated Design from University College London, England. She has experimented with carbon-based soil batteries, bio-receptive mortar and design proposals that respond sensitively to their surrounding environments. Her work focuses on the synergy between biotechnology, climate simulation, and bio-based materials to create scalable, performance-driven sustainable solutions. She is committed to designing a future where manmade and natural ecosystems thrive in tandem. At Ramya.Materials, Gayatri collaborates closely with clients to translate emerging technologies into viable, market-ready applications, supporting the adoption of forward-thinking and sustainable design practices.

Aryan holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Design from Stanford University, where he focused on urban systems and social entrepreneurship. A firm believer in systems-level, wide-boundary approaches to making sense of and tackling issues of the “polycrisis”, his professional journey has spanned multiple sectors - from academic research in urban planning, to capacity-building programs for city government, to the opposition’s 2024 Lok Sabha Campaign, and finally back to social entrepreneurship in the climate industry. In his most recent role, Aryan led a multidisciplinary team in structuring and selling multi-million-dollar Cooling-as-a-Service contracts to India’s leading healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing and real estate companies. At Ramya.Materials, he continues to operate from a multidisciplinary, wide-boundary lens - building meaningful partnerships and designing intentional programs to foster innovation in sustainable manufacturing.

Associate 

Tanishk Tyagi is an undergraduate student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi pursuing Textile and Fibre Engineering with a Minor in Business Management. He was also awarded the Summer Undergraduate Research Award (SURA) at IIT Delhi for his research on AI-enabled smart textile strain sensors for adaptive medical rehabilitation, reflecting his interest in translating scientific research into scalable industrial and commercial solutions.As an Associate at Ramya.Materials, he focuses on investment and financial analysis and works at the intersection of deep-tech innovation, materials science, and investment strategy, supporting technology due diligence, market intelligence, commercialization, and financial strategy for emerging technologies.

Intern

Aarna Gupta is passionate about sustainable infrastructure, circular materials, and occupational health. As an intern at Ramya.Materials, she works on recycled material systems and sustainable construction solutions. She is the founder of SilicaSafe, a scalable dust-suppression system reducing particulate exposure on construction sites. Her broader work spans atmospheric water generation, biopolymers, and energy systems, with a focus on translating research into real-world impact.
